Midnight Meat Train Movie Review, Poster, Trailer

Midnight Meat Train Movie Review, Poster, Trailer

Ok, so its time for the review I've been waiting to do for months. Course, I saw this in December and waited till officially came out to do the review. This movie was based on a Clive Barker short story and stars Vinny Jones as a butcher. In fact The film was directed by Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura and stars Bradley Cooper, Leslie Bibb, Vinnie Jones and Brooke Shields. And I must say. Bradley Cooper does a great job in this movie as a photographer who is looking to score his niche in his career. With advice from Brooke Shields character he decides to capture the worst part of the city. During this he begins to plot together what he believes is a murder mystery complete with Vinny Jones butchering the hell out of some folks on the 2am subway train. Now, I will say this. To me this is one of the slickest, coolest looking horror movies in a long time. And Vinny Jones is great as the butcher. This movie is off the charts on gore and their are some scenes including Vinny knocking the eyes balls out of a guy and knocking a girls head off literally and her eye blinking at you. Even though its laying ten feet from her body. Great stuff buys. Now, this movie had all kinds of release problems. But, when you consider shit like Saw V gets a wide release this movie deserved a major theater release. Sadly, it never got it. This is easily Clive Barker's best adaptation not named Hellraiser. If you want a very cool movie experience, and some serious original horror and gore. Meat Train will make you happy. I wasn't very thrilled with the ending but, hey. What can you expect. I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 axes. Great Horror Movie.

Red Sands Movie Review

Red Sands Movie Review

Ok, so I saw this movie trailer and thought this movie had some promise. Group of Army Soldiers out in the desert on assignment. In Iraq or somewhere like that. Anyway, movie involves a series of events that kills off soldiers in various ways. Only, promise is this movie has no idea what kind of a horror movie this is. Did the guy shoot the genie dirt statue and unleash something? Is it the sargent is nuts and he kills his soldiers? Is it the native girl thats some sorta of a creature killing? All of the above? This movie wasn't particularly scary, gory, or even had much of a idea what it was supposed to be. It was confusing and flat ass dragged in a lot of spots. Acting was pretty good. Shane West was good as a soldier and the guy that played the sarge is pretty damn good. JK Simmons has like 2 minutes of actual screen time and they put his name on the top billing. Bastards. I give this like 2.5 out of 5 axes. Just for the interaction between the soldiers which is good. A rent on the cheap rack only folks.

Top 5 Horror Sequels I want to see

Top 5 Horror Sequels I want to see.

5) Saw VI - Ok, so I know we have this coming already but, shit its got to be better than Saw V. Though, everybody has been killed off that is worth a damn. Hopefully, some how Dr. Gordon will make his return. Saw films are supposed to raise our eyebrows at the end. And Saw V did nothing but, make mine frown.

4) Friday the 13th Part 2 - Ok, so I loved the relaunch from Platinum Dunes and as a major Jason Voorhees fan as long as they stay in the same premise as this last one. Staying with Derek Mears, staying with Jason behind quicker, sharper, more brutal. And they keep the strong male lead character. I am sorry but, as big of a fan I am of the original movies I got sick of seeing the chick at the end fighting Jason. Long live Tommy Jarvis.

3) Hostel 3 - Why you may ask? How about because Hostel 2 sucked? Hostel was so gory and hard. Then you give us Hostel 2. Fuck you.

2) Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Ok, no not the Beginning. Which I did like and found pretty interesting. I dig backstories. That being said. I want R Lee Ermey and his young one Leatherface to give us the further adventures. But, Platinum Dunes stick to the dirty raw formula you set for the first two you did. Please. No Next Generation shit.

1) Dawn of the Dead Part 2 - Zack Snyder. Jesus, please no body tell me that Steve Miner's shit called Day of the Dead was the sequel. Because I will shoot myself. And hell Miner has directed some of my favorite horror movies. But, I want Zack to come back and do a proper sequel to the baddest horror zombie movie ever. Slap us in the face again. Please.

Top 20 horror movies Part 2 - The Final Chapter

Top 20 horror movies Part 2 - The Final Chapter

9) 28 Days Later - Oh wow. A powerhouse zombie flick to the max. Directed by recent best picture director Danny Boyle. The acting strength of Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson. People are infected with a virus that causes RAGE. Now, thats a premise I love. Serious gore. A bunch of nutty ass service men trying to fuck little girls in dresses to keep the "world population" going. This is literally one of the top 3 best zombie flicks I've ever seen.

8) 28 Weeks Later - Thats right. I have the sequel ahead of the original. A great piece to the first movie and I thought a more polished version of the first film. More great casting Robert Carlyle as a dad that gets infected with rage and Jeremy Renner as a army sniper trying to help to young kids escape the city. Takes place as you can image exactly 28 weeks later.

7) Friday the 13th Part 6 Jason Lives - I debated putting this on the list as its my favorite Friday movie but, its more of a summer popcorn horror flick that a scary demented horror movie. But, its got some memorable horror moments including one of the best opening scenes ever when Jason is resurrected.

6) TCM 2003 - Thats right folks. This is the one that started the big debate about even remaking horror movies. But, this was the one that should be the fucking slasher standard. Marcus Nispel who directed the relaunch of Friday the 13th on behalf of Platinum Dunes reeled out a brutal, raw masterpiece of hell. Leatherface is large brutal and a nightmare for teens that happen upon him and R Lee Ermey who plays a demented leader of the Hewitt family and a new horror icon to go right along with Leatherface. The Unrated copy is the only way to watch this. Gore to the max.

5) Dawn of the Dead - 2004 - The remake of the George Romero classic zombie flick directed by a highly talented Zack Snyder. This movie gave us Zombies on HGH and steriods. Complete with a great cast of Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, and Jake Weber. It takes place in the mall. And is in my opinion of the best remake of all the remakes so far. This is one twisted mutha on unrated dvd which is the only way to watch this. Gore to the max.

4) House on Haunted Hill - 1999 - Remake of William Castle's original. And one twisted fucking flick. This movie had a serious cast which included a great performance from Geoffrey Rush as a demented owner of the house. A group of people are assembled to a House that used to be the site of a insane nut house. That had one really twisted doctor that tortured patients. Alot of gore and just the movements of the entities in this freaked me the hell out.

3) Saw - 2004 horror movie directed by James Wan. Saw introduced us to one of horror's largest icon's now namely one Jigsaw as nicely portrayed by Tobin Bell. This movie was one of the most original horror movies I can remember seeing in years. And had a great cast of Cary Elwes and Danny Glover. The ending is also one of the biggest "oh shit" moments ever in horror history. The score at the end just adds to its history. And the unrated version is a gore filled lovefest.

2) Event Horizon - 1997 - Event Horizon combines two elements that are extremely hit or miss. Combining Sci Fi with Horror. But, this works to the max. One of the greatest casts ever assembled for a horror movie including Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, Sean Pertwee and directed by Paul WS Anderson. This movie is about exploring a ship that was lost in space for years and now has popped back up on the radar. Well, once on board all "HELL" breaks loose. As hell itself opens and plays on his member of the crews worst fears. Nice amounts of gore and a very unnerving feeling makes this one creepy SOB.

1) Blair Witch Project - 1999 - The original little horror movie that could. About 3 young college students that goes in search of a legend called the Blair Witch. This is the biggest love or hate movie of all time. Both me and Late Night Sneaky Pedro love this movie. But, our other partner in crime Twan thinks this is one of the worst horror movies ever. For me. Living in Texas and from the ages of 12 to 17 exploring the woods was a thing to do. And spooky sounds and noises were part of the experience. This was one unnerving venture down memory lane for me. No real gore. But, a lot of struggle between the kids and pure emotion from all involved made this a tremendous experience.

Well, there it is. My Top 20 horror movies ever. Feel free to agree, bash, or otherwise.

Sucker Punch Movie going forward

Sucker Punch Movie going forward

It seems Zack Snyder's hardcore action flick that is said to be Alice in Wonderland with machine guns is moving ahead this fall.

Talking with Collider, Snyder says the film takes place in the late 60’s and "it’s about a girl that’s been committed to an insane asylum and she fantasizes that she can escape and she has these crazy adventures in her mind where she goes into the past and into the future."

He adds that it's a hardcore action film that's "definitely rated R". Snyder and Steve Shibuya penned the script based off a short story.

Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's acclaimed graphic novel "Watchmen" hits theaters in two weeks and he's been in and out of Sydney for the past few months working on his animated project "Guardians of Ga’Hoole".

Friday the 13th Box Office US and Foreign

Looks like the total is looking a whole lot better.

Domestic: $55,002,000 85.2%
+ Foreign: $9,525,200 14.8%

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

= Worldwide: $64,527,200

Now, that looks pretty impressive.
After two weeks.

Rockbot Rants- Top 5 Most Overrated Horror Movies Ever

Ok, so I have to tell you. I about to venture in to a realm of opinion that seems to be forbidden ground with horror movies. Some of the "supposed classics". And everybody and their love of the "originals". Great. Ok, well, in most cases there are reasons to believe that the classics are classics. And maybe in the cases of some of the movies I am about rant on we can say the fact that I didn't see them when they "originally" came out just due to age. And I saw most of these in the 80's. or Early 80's. And some just recently. Top 5 most overrated horror movies I've ever seen. This is strictly a bias opinion.

5) The original Last House on the Left - Hmmm. It was directed by the great Wes Craven. Ok. What does that mean? Wes Craven's best movies are The original Hills Have Eyes, Dracula 2000 (yes, i said that shit), Scream. and um' Cursed. Wait. No. Not Cursed (a truely terrible movie). Some might say Nightmare on Elm Street but, I wasn't a big Freddy fan. But, it didn't make my list. So Nightmare fans breath easy. This movie was supposed to have been I guess shocking for its time. Because two young girls get kidnapped, raped, beaten, and killed by some convicts. Now, maybe because of its time released this was all true. But, its what most of this list is all about. It doesn't stand the test of time. This movie is no longer even remotely shocking. Hostel? Hostel 2? The Hills Have Eyes Remake? High Tension? WTF. I remember seeing this movie and thinking after it was over wait? Something else was bound to happen. Cause, where's this payoff? Nothing....

4) The Sixth Sense - Oh, hell. M Night Shyamalan. One of the world's greatest hit or miss directors. Now, I will tell you. I'm not a supernatural horror fan. But, the fact that this movie came out basically around the same time as a movie called Stir of Echoes (which was god damn excellent starring Kevin Bacon) however, nobody talks about it. Drives me INSANE. This movie was not frightening. Did not make me think. Wonder. M Night has made two of the worst horror films ever. The Village (which to this day is possibly the worst movie I've ever saw) and The Sixth Sense but, yet made some such a beautiful masterpiece like Unbreakable is beyond me. Stir of Echoes had a creepier house. A unreal performance by Mr. Bacon going bananas. And a finger nail breaking that made every body go "god ****".

3) Halloween III: Season of the Witch - You may be thinking "wait everybody knows this sucks". Nope. Not everybody. There seems to be a ever growing legion of people that love this fucking Halloween III shit. And thats what it is shit. Complete with its Silver Shamrock Commerical and creeping bullshit singing. People are like "its just different". Damn right its different. Where the hell is Michael Myers? Shit, its a Halloween movie for shit sakes. I swear. Jump the shark. Wow. Thank god for Halloween 4: The RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS. Get it. Halloween. Michael Myers. H3 was a POS. End of Story.

2) I Spit On Your Grave - This movie was actually not that bad. It has rape, violence, etc. However, again by today's standards this is no longer shocking. So it does not stand the test of time. They raped this woman silly. Which is wrong. But, the rape in the movie with Jodie Foster was a helluva lot more believable and brutal to me. And stands with me more than the ones in this movie ever will. Neither are right. But, in today's standards. It does not hold up as shocking.

1) The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Wow. This one will get the hounds called out on me. Yes, Chainsaw. And I will say Chainsaw is still better than most of the bs direct to dvd shit that is released today. But, this is supposed to be a classic in terms of cannibals, crazy redneck families, and a chain welding Leatherface. You know this is a decent flick even now. But, I still enjoy TCM 2 and most definitely the remake from Platinum Dunes a 1,000 times better. Maybe, because this suffers from the infamous shocking in the 70's isn't shocking in this era of horror. The remake was strong brutal, raw, gory fucking masterpiece. Not only is Leatherface a beast but, R Lee Ermey is a fucking nut bag legend as that sheriff. The original TCM looks old to me. And in some parts just drags. Sorry horror fans. But, thats the truth.

This week's Horror Box Office Update Feb. 20th-22nd 09

C'mon Friday the 13th fans

Wow, so as always horror movies open big and then experience a 2nd week drop thats large. Friday the 13th did not dodge the dreaded drop. It dropped 81% in its 2nd weekend. To take a total of $7.8 million in its 2nd week raising its box office 2 week total to $55 million. Which is still a big horror blockbuster but, ouch. Most of us figured $55 million after last weekend. But, its safe to say it will still outgross Zombie's Halloween 07 remake which finished at $58 million. Which was also a big success. I very interested when international totals start coming in. But, predictions of a $100 million US haul is probably far fetched now. Likely, $75-80 million or so before its said and done. Which will still get us our sequel. The other big horror box office note is My Bloody Valentine 3D hitting $380,000 and took it total to $51,285,000. Hopefully, getting us a sequel. The Uninvited had $1.3 million raising it to $26 million. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans took $719,000 raising its total to $45 million. The Unborn also raised its total gross to $42 million. Which when you consider its $16 million budget. Its a damn hit.

When I get a international update I'll post that later.

Rockbot's Top 20 Horror Movies of All Time

Rockbot's Top 20 Horror Movies of All Time

Ok, so a few things before we go in to the list. I am not a major supernatural horror fan. And I am also not a fan of the old frankenstein, dracula, vincent price type horror movies. They do nothing for me at all. Also, this is my list and not a list of what I think either people want to hear and I don't buy in to some of the many "supposed" horror classics being untouchable. And honestly, I like a few of the remakes over the originals. So thats where we begin. These are movies that I watched and when I think of horror these movies come to mind.

20) Halloween - John Carpenter's original classic. This movie was important for starting my personal favorite type of horror movie which is the slasher genre. And the music is flat scary as hell. Dr. Loomis portrayed by Donald Pleasance is priceless "I shot him 6 times". That was priceless. And it introduced us to one Michael Myers. Babysitting would never be the same.

19) Dog Soldiers - Now, this is what I call a werewolf movie. A 2002 British horror movie starring Kevin "Rome" McKidd and Sean "Event Horizon" Pertwee. A group of 6 British soldiers dumped in the forest in Scottish Highlands. They fight their way from the forest to a old cabin. Which they find a lady who helps them in their struggle versus the werewolves. This movie is full a fun and gore. And the Captain Ryan is one SOB.

18) Hostel - Hostel is a 2005 horror movie that was directed by Eli Roth. It follows a trio of backpackers in to Amsterdam and a hostel to stay the night in. There they find many beautiful women in which young men would love to spend time with. So they do. And this would end them. As it was a set up in to a realm of torture and hate.
As Jay Hernandez finds himself trying to make it out of a underground chamber warehouse of rich business men who have paid huge money to torture and kill people. People call this torture porn. I call this a great horror movie.

17) Evil Dead 2 - Evil Dead is a 1987 cult classic horror/comedy from director Sam Raimi. This movie continued the story of our beloved Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. This movie is a classic for scares and some great laughs. Bruce Campbell gives a great performance as a wisecracking hero yet everyday Joe battling the forces of Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. Movie is known for the infamous sawing off of Ash's hand. The sawed off shotty and the catch phrases "Groovy". It is per Sam Raimi the sequel to Evil Dead. Not a remake.

16) Cube - A Canadian horror/sci fi film directed by Vincenzo Natali. Despite its low budget, the film achieved moderate commercial success and has acquired cult status as a niche science-fiction title. This movie is great in its simple premise. Place a bunch of strangers in a Cube of many Cubes. And as you sifted from room to room. If you stepped in the wrong room. You died. In some seriously horrible fashion. Basically, traps. Its one of the more original horror movies in a long time and spawned 2 sequels since. Throw in the personally's of the different characters. And it becomes a helluva a mess.

15) Halloween is a 2007 remake of the 1978 slasher film of the same name. That's right horror fans. Its on my list. Yes, Rob Zombie's Halloween. And yes, its above the original. Oh no. The horror. Lol. Please. This movie put a great new spin on a story from John Carpenter. The movie finally gave the backstory I had been wanting to Michael Myers. And to be fair. I am a big fan of Zombie's white trash horror. I like the abusive family and seeing Michael as a nutbag kid waiting to snap. And watching him make that transformation. I loved Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis, Tyler Mane as a monster Myers, and seeing genre greats like Danny Trejo, Ken Foree, and William Forsythe. This Halloween is raw, brutal, and mean. Like a slasher should be.

14) High Tension (Haute Tension) - Is a 2003 French horror movie directed by horror great Alexander Aja. This movie is about two college girls who go to one of the girls parents farm house and find themselves in a brutal struggle with a very wacked out redneck. This movie has some serious tension moments for sure and the gore is off the charts. It originally received a NC - 17 but, had clips cut to make US theaters. The unrated dvd is the only way to truely experience this. It has one of helluva twist at the end which I HATED are this movie would be in my top 5.

13) Friday the 13th Part 4 The Final Chapter - Now, you knew this list would have some Friday's on it. This of course is directed by Joseph Zito and was the original death of Jason Voorhees. This movie had a lot of great fun aspects. Crispin Glover as a loveable nerd. Corey Feldman as a legendary Tommy Jarvis. Gore that was pushed even for Friday the 13th. Effects by Tom Savini. And a ending. Well. Lets just say Jason really does get his.

12) 13 Ghosts - This is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name. This version is directed by Steve Beck. 13 Ghosts follows a widower and his family to a inherited house in which they find has some hellish secrets. This movie has some seriously freaked out moments including the guy with spikes in him. The chick in the bathtub. And just a stylish slick filming style made this one of my favorite and scariest damn movies I've ever seen.

11) Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 or TCM 2 - This was the long awaited follow up to Tobe Hooper's classic from the 70's. Also directed by Tobe Hooper. This movie has a ton of great horror elements and classic characters. Choptop from Bill Moseley, Dennis Hopper as Lefty (A retired Texas Ranger), and Jim Siedow as the head of the family caterer. Tom Savini does the effects for this one also. The gore is off the charts and there is a some great scenes between Caroline Williams and Bill Moseley at the beginning. Truely, under appreciated horror/dark comedy. 1985.

10) Aliens - 1986 sci fi/horror/action classic follow up to Alien by director James Cameron. Not a horror movie in the same sense as some of the others on this list but, the Alien and Predator has always had elements of horror involved with them. This movie had some tense moments mixed with some great action. And a cast of Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, and Bill Paxton. Oh man... Oh man... Great stuff. Marines vs Aliens the original. Always great.

That wraps the first half of Rockbot's (aka mine) Top 20 Horror Movies of All Time

Reanimator Movie Review

Reanimator Movie Review

I just finished for the first time watching the cult classic H.P. Lovecraft's Reanimator. This came out in 1985. And was directed by Stuart Gordon. This movie starts very strong with a opening sequence involving some exploding eye balls. And Jeffery Combs is tremendous as a creepy Dr. Herbert West. I had always heard this was a great movie but, as we always do we have a tendency to pass up some older flicks for new releases either due to hype or bigger stars or whatever. Well, the gf and I fired up the Netflix on this one and away we go. The movie was about Reanimating the dead with a serum. Basically, to eventually develop a cure to death. Anyway, this movie has a little of everything. Crazy nutty doctors starved for power, tons of gore, and some decent nudity. Its reminds me a little of Dawn of the Dead only not with zombies. Well, sorta with zombies. Its a tad campy however, its got parts in it that will make you go damn thats fucked up. Like the head trying to go down on a straped down chick. And the scene with the back from the death cat clinging to Dr. West's back was priceless. It was great. Anyway, if you want to see a cult classic then go to your local BB or Netflix and rent this classic because frankly, this flick is great. 4 out 5 axes.

Feast 3: The Happy Finish Movie Review

Feast 3: The Happy Finish Movie Review

Ok, so I just got through watching Feast 3 The Happy Finish. And i will say. I loved the first one. And thought the 2nd was okay at best. Not often is a 3rd movie of the trilogy better than the 2nd but, this one is. As always Clu Guluger and the left over brand of misfits from the first one are continuing their escape from what ever in the hell kinda monsters these are. Anyway, as with any Feast film I believe it shows it god given right to show boobs, and lotsa of gore. In those to areas this film does not disappoint. I did get a little confused by the ending. However, one of the names of a new character was Jean Claude Seagal. Nice. Directed by John Gulager from the first two. It has a nice finale to the end of the series. Wait. I'm already hearing Feast 4 talk. So much for that. So if your looking for a lot of gore, and boobs. Rent Feast 3. If you liked the 1st two you will definitely dig this. Too bad its not as good as the first. Which was excellent. Because the ending was so confusing and all over the place. I will have to give this 3 out 5 axes. Enjoy.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Movie Review

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Movie Review

Ok, so I'm going to review one of my favorite horror movies of all time. The Tobe Hooper directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Now for me. And I will be hammered for this. I don't care. This was so much more entertaining to me than the original "classic" that everybody loved. This movie has a great cast Dennis Hopper, Bill Moseley, Caroline Williams, and make up effects by the great Tom Savini. Now this movie stars Caroline Williams as a radio disc jockey who captures a chainsaw murder on the radio. Well, after reading about the Texas Ranger Dennis Hopper she looks him up and he convinces her to play it on the radio. Well, this leads to a great scene in horror history between Caroline Williams and Bill Moseley as Chop Top. A now horror iconic character. Ex-vet who scratches the dead flesh away from his metal plate in his head and eats it. Your thinking wtf? Yep, trust me. Just go with it. Its tremendous. Then comes the creepy erotic exchange between Leatherface and the disc jockey in a old freezer. In which he essentially rubs her with the chainsaw in her privates. Wow. Then comes Dennis Hopper who buys chainsaws and then goes through a series of slamming them down on a log over and over again. Now, this was at one time of the goriest if not the goriest movie I could remember seeing. With lotsa of blood. A partial beheading with the top of the head sliding off while the guys still driving with blood squirting out. A brutal beating with a hammer. In which the guys lives only to die after he's bleed to damn much from having his face and part of his torso's skin pulled off. This movie might be considered by many to be terrible. But, it had great elements of a true terror movie. Tort
ure porn before torture porn. It is a highly under rated movies and would make any top 20 list of my favs of all time. The uncle is insane as a caterer that uses human meat to win the best Texas chili award yearly. Dennis Hopper screams and waves chainsaws. And cuts out the uncles hem's. lol. Watch the movie you will know what I mean. This to me is a much own for horror fans. 4.5 out of 5 axes.

Joss Whedon's Dollhouse Bombs

The unleashing of Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse has very poor debut.

The performances represent a disappointing debut for what was, on paper, a good idea: creating a male-skewing sci-fi block to go against CBS' night-topping female-skewing crime shows. Fox didn't expect to win against CBS, but had some hope of coming out ahead of ABC's reality shows. But "Terminator" was sinking in the ratings earlier this season and "Dollhouse" has suffered from negative buzz and creative trouble for months. The series premiere of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" was seen by 4.7 million viewers Friday night and garnered a 2.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and 6 share.

Friday the 13th 2009 has a monster 4 day box office gross

Well, guys the totals are rolling in. Friday the 13th remake (reboot, relaunch, sequel) grabbed a huge $42 million dollars. And considering this is a 4 day weekend with Presidents day most people are believing it will end around $50-$55 million. A monster take. And the largest opening ever for a horror movie. EVER. Also a thriller Taken with Liam Neesom is continuing to hold tight at a huge $19.3 million take and raised its status to $77.9 million. The Uninvited hit $4.7 million raising its total to $24.1 millon. Underworld Rise of the Lycans was 14th with $2.3 million for a total take of $43.4 million. And in the magic number category My Bloody Valentine 3D took $1.8 million and hit that $50 million dollar mark. All these figures are in US.

Film, breathing new life into the classic franchise, is on its way to posting the best four-day holiday gross ever for a R-rated pic. Studios will report four-day numbers for President’s Day weekend on Monday.

Paramount is a partner on “Friday,” which was produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. Production budget was $19 million, meaning the film recouped those costs in its first day in release (Friday’s gross was $19.4 million.

Bloody-Disgusting.Com just broke the story that Malcolm McDowell will be back officially in Halloween H2. I think personally this is great news as he was a perfect doctor Loomis. It has just recently been brought to my attention that some fans hated him as Loomis. I have no idea why. He is genre great. And a legend. Wow. Anyway, they said Zombie said he is signed.

Friday the 13th Kills Everything in its Path on Friday's Box Office

Friday the 13th Kills Everything in its Path on Friday's Box Office

Jason's back and in a bigger way than even most of us expected. A MONSTER $19.3 million dollars on Friday. The largest opening R-Rated horror/slasher pic gross on day one ever!! Now industry insiders are guessing somewhere north of $50 million dollars by the end of the weekend. And now visions of a possible $100 million dollar take is certainly possible. Though horror movies have a record of dropping off severly in week two. Still, think this is better than even we expected. And we probably won a sequel off of day one. Least I would think. Look at the previous opening weekends. Its got several of the movies almost beat on the first day for their entire gross. Among theater averages yesterday, “Friday the 13th” also had one of the highest among all pics playing with $6,215.

Friday the 13th (2009) Review

Friday the 13th (2009) Review

Ok, I just got back from the theater and the Friday the 13th relaunch. And I must say. For all the slasher movies. Everywhere. Platinum Dunes hit gold. Twice. Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. Now, I never thought I could say I would ever enjoy a Friday more than Jason Lives or The Final Chapter. But, I believe its happened. The holy grail of Friday the 13th movies have arrived. I've read some negative reviews across horror land. And I guess they watched a different movie. I grew up a fan of this film series. And part of me wanted to hate this going in. How can you remake, reboot, relaunch Friday the 13th? Well, Marcus Nispel, and Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form. Writers Damian Shannon, Mark Swift. You did it. I will start by saying this Crystal Lake I guess isn't in NJ. Because being from Texas there is no mistaking South Texas and the textures and the woods. Ever. Its dry. Harsh. Raw. Much like this take on Friday the 13th. I will be honest. I'm not a Platinum Dunes basher. I think they've made damn good remakes and horror movies. Cept, maybe the Unborn which kinda dragged when I watched it the other day. I even dug the Hitcher. Which most people consider trash but, Sean Bean made up for that. *********SPOILERS*********

Now, this movie begins with showing us Pamela Voorhees and Camp Crystal Lake. The girl slicing her head off. And its starts in 1980 when they made the first Friday. Not 1957. Anyway, Jason was watching this from the woods. He witnesses the whole beheading and game on. We start with a first batch of teens out looking for the holy grail of weed. And well, two of them find it. Course, they find our old beloved sack wearing friend. In all of his new found glory. Now, I will tell you. I never in life thought anybody would replace Kane Hodder or CJ Graham. They gave us a terminator Jason we will never forget and greatly enjoyed. However, Derek Mears is the human version of HELL with a machete. He is a swole, fast movie fucking Jaws. But, this Jason may be a little slow. But, he is not the non thinker we were always used to. He is pretty smart. Sets traps. And people saying there are not any creative kills. There are a couple of damn good ones. Now, none of the backbreaker's or sleeping bag slams that rank as most people's favorites of all time. But, we get a ode to the sleeping bag in a new way. And there is some good gore in this movie. And I'm looking forward the uncut dvd version. Its going to be great. Somebody said it was a couple cuts away from a PG 13 horror movie. Really?? Couple might be more like 7 or 8 kills to bring a PG 13 and you have to take a bunch of tits out of it. So the premise is the same. Dope and Sex equal death. But, for this Jason he's getting revenge for moms but, it also seems to be a trespassing issue. You get the sense that cops, and Crystal Lake regulars know not to even go out that way. And everybody stays happy. Jared Padalecki is very good as our lead dude for the first time since John D. LeMay. And frankly, our best guy since one Tom Jarvis. He gives Jason a fight as he's no small fry. And of course, this is human Jason remember. Zombie Jason would've made him a snack. I do agree with one thing. I kinda liked the original group of teens better than the second group. However, Jared makes up for that with a strong lead performance. So the ending. Hmmmm. I won't give it a way. But, there's a couple spots where it will wink at the original 1st 4 Fridays. Anyway, I give it 5 out of 5 axes. If you don't see this opening weekend then by all means make it to the theater soon. This is not for dvd the first time. And needs to be witnessed on a big screen. Don't be scared away from this because of people who just want to hate these reimaging movies because they think its "cool". This is a bad ass flick.

Is Friday the 13th Already a Huge Hit?

Is Friday the 13th Already a Huge Hit?

While reading around the web this afternoon I picked up a story from Variety.Com. This story indicates that Friday the 13th is opening in 3,105 theaters however, the thing that sparked my attention was about Fandango.Com (the seller of many a movie ticket online). "As of Thursday, online ticket service Fandango reported that more than 50% of all tickets sales were for the horror remake." Wow. That is a lot of tickets. I am going on record for a $25 million dollar take. Minimum. Just for this weekend.

New Freddy Krueger Cast? JACKIE EARLE HALEY

Latino Review is saying that Platinum Dunes is in fact looking at Jackie Earle Haley as a possible Freddy Krueger. While there is no official word out of PD we are patiently awaiting. Tho, I'm a massive Robert Englund fan and not a huge Nightmare fan this looks like a very interesting choice. He is also in the upcoming Watchmen. Right now I think its just a rumor.

Now I'm officially fired the hell up for August 28th. Bills returns as Uncle Seymour Coffins a local Haddonfield horror host and Caroline plays Dr. Maple the head doc at Haddonfield General.

Friday the 13th Part 3 Movie Review

Friday the 13th Part 3 Movie Review

This is it. The final review before the big day. I have 7:15pm Friday night mapped out with a path to get my tickets early in the day. I'm off. The gf is off. So we're about to have a panic attack over this. So, on to Friday the 13th Part 3.

If I remember right this was the 3rd Friday the 13th I ever saw. I saw it after Part 6 and Part 2. It came on a local tv station back in I think 1988 on Halloween at 11pm. I actually remember this thing scaring the living shit out of me and I didn't sleep for a week. I watched it again the other day as part of my From Crystal Lake to Manhattan collection. And surprisingly it was still damn good.
Dana Kimmell plays are lead actress that will ultimately will face Jason. Which is a hell of a hard road to hold after the greatness that was Amy Steel. Let me tell you this movie is known for two major things. Being in 3D and for Jason getting the hockey mask for the first time. This movie also picks up immediately after Part 2 ends. Which I loved how 2-4 were back to back even tho this would make it Saturday the 14th. Who's really counting. This movie is also known for a couple damn good kills in the series. Number one guy gets split in half while walking on his hands and a dude gets his head squeezed until one of his eye balls pops out at the camera in all of its 3D Glory. Now I will tell you as I watched this movie again probably for the first time in a while I realized how much I still liked this flick. Leading to a great ending between Dana Kimmell and Jason Voorhees. All in all this was a damn good Friday and now it probably stands as my 5th favorite out of the 11 movies. Not bad. I give it 4 out of 5 axes.

Christopher Nolan does Inception Movie

Looks like Batman 3 won't be Nolan's next movie. WB has kept Nolan around for a Sci Fi movie called Inception. You can bet I will be in line for this movie. Nolan makes a great movie and I bet something sci fi will be great. Read a snippet below:

In a whopping seven-figure buy, Warner Bros. has nabbed "Inception," a script written by Christopher Nolan as his next directing vehicle.
Deal allows WB to keep the director of its 2008 top-grosser "The Dark Knight" in the studio fold and gives WB a big film for summer 2010.

Candyman : Farewell to the Flesh Review

Candyman : Farewell to the Flesh Review

Ok, so I love slasher flicks and to a point I am a bit of Candyman fan. Maybe because frankly, I like the hell out of Tony Todd. Who is a great genre actor as many fans know from Candyman movies, The Rock, and Final Destination films. This is also the sequel to the first Candyman but, I figured I better review this one as it just happened to come on TMC. Now, I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and I actually remember really liking it. And now. Well, damn. I will first say we immediately miss the acting ability of Virginia Madsen who did a great job in the first one. And this one has a mystery plot of trying to learn the origin of Candyman. This plot is not overly strong. Its fair. And its by no means a terrible movie. It has some decent kills and Tony Todd is strong in the scenes he is actually in. And there is a really good origin flashback which is extremely cool. And actually, makes me think they should've made a prequel instead of Candyman 3. But, considering he has a hook as a hand. We and he uses this to do the killing Candyman man tends to lack some of the extras that a Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers when it comes to being creative. Overall, its fairly decent and a good watch at 4am in the morning. Huh. Does that make it good. Hmmm. Damn. I give this 2.0 out of 5 axes. I'd say unless your just a massive Tony Todd or Candyman fan you skip it.

The Steam Experiment News and poster

The Steam Experiment

As we further Val Kilmer's slide in to direct to dvd dom.... Wow. Comes a new movie with Val Kilmer and the great Eric Roberts (ok, i loved best of the best). Read the plot info below:

Kilmer plays a former university professor who overheats his hostages to prove that humans will devolve into chaos under the pressures of global warming. He tells a detective (Assante) that their location will be revealed if his hypothesis is printed as the local paper's front-page headline.

The six potential victims are a former pro football player (Roberts), a former actress (Brown), a nurse (Muldoon), a waitress (Eve Mauro), a restaurateur (Quinn Duffy) and a writer (Cordelia Reynolds). As temperatures rise, the desperate detainees fight for survival.
