Horror Wins Box Office! #horror #boxoffice #insidious2

Horror has reclaimed it's place at the top of the box office in a huge way! Insidious Chapter 2 opened with a insane massive $43 million dollars including a big time $20.5 million on Friday.

That's about double what insiders expected. And it makes it the highest horror debut of the year. The Conjuring (everybody's horror darling) and The Purge did $41.5 and $34 million in they're debuts.

Riddick pulled another $7.3 million which was good for number 3 (unless something crazy happens). Riddick has added $7.8 million in overseas money. So it's grossed now about $41 million. Besting it's $35 million budget. Something to remember is Vin Diesel pulls massive overseas totals. When this thing expands it's going to do massive business. Chronicles of Riddick did 50% of it's business overseas.

Elysium continues to do strong business. It grabbed another $2.2 million after several weeks. It's made $88 million USA dollars. Course, throw in the $115 million it's made overseas and it's done a healthy $215 million. Besting it's budget by around $100 million.

But when he sets out to add shy, young secretary Wendy Alden (Harris) to his macabre collection, he gets more than he bargained for. Unfortunately, Wendy's escape from his first assault only deepens the killer's twisted obsession -- and affection -- for her. Legendary Pictures getting in on "Dracula" #dracula

Reports are coming out that Legendary Pictures may be getting involved with Dracula (Formerly Dracula Year One). This is the same company that was involved with Man of Steel and Pacific Rim. So they are possibly looking to take this film to a different level.

It would most likely mean a bump in budget as well. The film currently stars Luke Evans and is directed by Gary Shore.

Cranston as Lex Luthor? And a Fantastic Man Of Steel 2 Fan Trailer! #batmanvssuperman

News has broke all across the web that Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame will reportedly play Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel 2 (Batman vs Superman) flick.

Guess this means Mark Strong will not be playing Lex after all. Either would have been a fantastic choice. Bryan should be great bringing a little Walter White to the mix.

I am usually not a big fan of fan made trailers. But, this one for Man of Steel 2 is pretty great.

Worldwide Box Office! Lone Ranger Turns a Profit??? Rim Massive Worldwide

So, now my favorite box office update to do. Because the true measure of success is films and how they fare overseas. It determines whether we get sequels. It also makes perceived bombs into hits.

Elysium the film has scooped up $55 million in USA dollars. The perceived semi-hit has grabbed another $47 million internationally. That makes for $93 million worldwide. On a $115 million budget this thing will be a bonafide worldwide hit before its over.

Kick Ass 2 looked like a semi-bomb. However, after bringing in only $13.6 million in US dollars it added a hair under $7 million overseas. That's $19 million on a worldwide level. It's very important to note it's $28 million budget. This thing will turn a good profit before it's said and done.

The Wolverine continues to dominate in one of those "wait The Wolverine bomb sort of ways"... No, it didn't. The Wolverine is doing huge business. It's made $120 million in USA dollars. Add a massive $214 million internationally and you have $335 million on a $120 million budget. I'd say a $200 million profit is pretty good...

Now, Pacific Rim. This is a movie that is getting rave movie goer reviews (not from me, I thought it was OK). It has nabbed $98 million in the USA. But, worldwide it has grabbed a unreal $286 million dollars. And is stomping it's way to $400 million at $384 million currently.

Red 2 which is a perceived bomb has now reached $102 million in box office dollars on a $84 million budget. Not a massive profit but, it's still got a ways to go also. So as of now the "bomb" has $20 million profit. Doubt there will be a Red 3 though (thank god).

Now for the most interesting figure I've seen in months. The Lone Ranger has turned a profit. Yes, that Lone Ranger. Before any dvd or blu ray money ever comes in. It's turned a theater profit. The Lone Ranger only made $87.8 million here in the USA. But, Internationally it pulled another $130 million. And on a $215 million budget that means the film that looked as if it would take YEARS to pull a profit (they all do even Waterworld) has now made a near $3 million profit. Hardly, worth the trouble and money spent. I just found that interesting.

Box Office is in!! Kick Ass 2 opens soft!

Internationals are NOT in yet these are domestic. Internationals later today

Box Office for this weekend was pretty weak overall. The Butler opened with $25 million. Normally, I would not even mention it on my box office report but, it opened number 1.

Very surprising was the soft opening of Kick Ass 2. I actually expected it to do $25-$30 million. The first one did $19 million however, has become a cult hit mainly due to dvd sales and rentals. The sequel opened with a soft $13.6 million.

Elysium continued to hold pretty strong with another $13.5 million dollars. It held the 4th spot on the charts. It has brought in a respectable $55.7 million overall. International totals will be in later today.

2 Guns grabbed another $5.6 million. The action movie with Washington and Walhberg has grossed $59 and is now just $2 million behind it's budget. No word on any international totals for this movie yet.

And in the bomb of the week. Paranoia made $3.6 million. The thriller which has got pretty bad fan reviews you would have thought would have scored more just off Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford being involved. Ouch.

Frank Darabont's "Mob City" Get's a Video Clip!

From the former show runner for The Walking Dead. Set in Los Angeles in 1947, the story deals with the fight between a powerful yet corrupt police force and organised crime figures like Ben 'Bugsy' Siegel (Ed Burns) and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke) who are trying to move in on the territory.

Neal McDonough, Jeffrey DeMunn, Jon Bernthal, Gregory Itzin, Robert Knepper, Milo Ventimiglia, Alexa Davalos and Simon Pegg star in the series. Wow that's one hell of a cast.

Expendables 3 gets official cast!

Patrick Hughes' The Expendables 3 shooting begins next week. Producer Boaz Davidson has released the official casting on Facebook.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Wesley Snipes, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Antonio Banderas, Ronda Rousey, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Victor Ortiz, Kellan Lutz.

Rumors are still circulating flying about Jackie Chan, Nicholas Cage, and Milla Jovovich.

Rousey, Ortiz, Lutz and the recently cast Glen Powell will play members of "a younger group of tech-savvy action heroes" who initially come into conflict with Stallone's crew and eventually team-up with them.

Box Office Update! Internationals Are In Pacific Rim is a MONSTER!

Box Office has been down for a few weeks now. But, it did bounce back pretty well this time. The Matt Damon and Jodie Foster starrer with District 9 director led Elysium scored a pretty good $30.4 million at the box office for the 3 days.

Too early to tell how it's going to do overseas but, District 9 did well. However, it did grab $10.8 million from limited overseas releases. That's $41 million worldwide. At a $115 million budget we will see how it does overall.

The next 3 new ones are all un-related to sci-fi or horror. We're The Millers had $26 million ($38 million over 5 days), Planes did $22.3 million, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters did a not so great $14 million however, it 5 day release so it's made $23 million total and another $9.6 million overseas for a $33 million haul overall. With a $90 million budget that could be a call for concern. The first one did $226 million worldwide.

2 Guns did a fairly well $11 million and now has a $48 million dollar total. No word on any overseas figures for this film.

The Wolverine crossed $100 million in the USA but, more importantly another $194 million overseas. That's $306 million for a movie people said was a bomb. Guess $180 million profit is a bomb these days.

The Conjuring continues to be strong for a horror movie. Another $6.7 million added to it's already large $120 million in the USA. Add in $47 million overseas and it's hit $167 million for a $20 million budget. Wow.

Pacific Rim which is probably off sequel watch (as in it's going to get one) took another $1.5 million. That's $97 million USA and adding in $247 million overseas it's made $344 million. That's a $150 million profit.

Red 2 which was looking like a possible bomb has now cleared a profit. It has made $44 million overseas with $49 million USA. That $94 million and has now officially taken $11 million over budget. I suspect it will take another $20-30 million overseas.

Took a little glance at the Lone Ranger. The movie that looked to be a massive failure has got a MAJOR boost from overseas totals taking in $108 million internationally. It creeping up to $200 million right now. It is still about $20 million shy of it's budget however, considering dvd sales later the movie will actually turn a profit at some point.

Featurette For Insidious Chapter 2!!

Ford Talking Indiana Jones 5!

We've heard for a while a possible Indiana Jones 5 was in the works. Now Harrison Ford while promoting Paranoia spoke about the idea with The Telegraph:

"We've seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it's perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn't necessarily have to kick as much ass.

To me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had wit, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and that he still managed to survive. That I can do."

Cut down on the CGI and count me in... I was one of the 5 people on the planet that didn't hate Crystal Skull.

Remember the last flick grossed $800 million worldwide on a $185 million budget. That always calls for a sequel.

WWE's Kane Returns in "See No Evil 2"

Some interesting coming from WWE Studios and Lionsgate. They are reuniting with Kane to bring us a sequel to See No Evil.

The Soska Twins (Dead Hooker In A Trunk) are directing the sequel. Which to be honest I highly enjoyed the first one. I saw it as a real slasher flashback giving us a new anti hero to root for. And Kane was very good as Jacob Goodnight. He's going to be killing off medical students and the film starts where the first one left off.

2 Guns fights off The Wolverine at the box office!

The number 1 movie in the country goes the action movie 2 Guns with Denzel Washington and Mark Walhberg. The movie came in with $27 million dollars. Not bad but, not a burner either. The movie has a $61 million budget which is pretty low for a action movie with 2 A list stars.

The Wolverine continues to do well (every body acts like this is bombing). The Wolverine was number 2 with a additional $21 million. It has grabbed $95 million in the USA and factor another $91 million overseas. The Wolverine has made $187 million. A solid $62 million more than it's budget. Sorry but, that's a hit. And this movie should come close to seeing at least $300 million.

The Conjuring continues with strong word of mouth. The little horror movie that could pulled a $13.6 million. That's $108 million US and $12 million worldwide. Now making it $120 million total for a movie that has a $20 million budget. Look for more low budget horror summer releases in the future. Good news for horror fans.

The movie I continue to watch is Pacific Rim. As it has made $92 million in the USA. But, add another $140 million worldwide. That's $232 million. A $42 million profit. It opened real well in China however, whether it's enough for a sequel nobody knows.

RIPD continues it's bombing. The scifi horror something movie was supposed to be a hit. It's now along with Lone Ranger the biggest bomb of the summer. A ugly $48 million worldwide vs $130 million budget.

Red 2 now has a total of $75.9 million worldwide vs a $84 million budget. It has performed strongly overseas like the previous one with a healthy $30 million alone. It should cross it's budget next week.

Pacific Rim 2 likely coming after China Big Box Office

It looks like Pacific Rim may get it's sequel after all. According to box office reports the Robot vs Monster thriller opened in China with $9 million on Wednesday.

It was the largest opening for a film ever in China beating even the Harry Potter movies. Warner Bros. is said to be keeping a close eye on it and may greenlight the sequel based on the China box office.

Very interesting as I watched a show on CNN the other day talking about why are these big budget movies continuing to be made even when they are bombing in the USA. The reason is China box office. China loves these big budget 3D (yes, China loves it) and a lot of the money being made these films are in China.

CW developing Flash Series!!

Some very interesting and exciting comic book adaptation news today. CW who hosts the popular DC Series Arrow (Based on Green Arrow) has announced they are moving forward on a series based on another very popular Justice League member "The Flash".

Evidently, the series according to Deadline.Com the character is set to make a appearance on the second season of Arrow. Around the 8th or 9th episode.

Casting is even expected to start this week on the role. No word on how this may effect the potential Justice League movie.

Here is quote from today from Arrow writer Greg Berlanti "Barry Allen’s story always has been a favorite of mine," Berlanti said, "as well as of Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. We wanted everyone to know about the show as that process commenced. We think it fits well both in terms of Arrow and as a stand-alone series."

David Nutter, director of the Arrow pilot, could direct The Flash pilot.

King Conan a Trilogy?

It seems we may get more than just one more dose of Arnold as Conan. We may get 3 doses. Depending on the box office of course. The CEO of Paradox has spoken regarding the upcoming Conan films.

"We have a great story. This is a role that’s perfect for [Arnold] and he’s very involved with the whole Universal team.
Arnold has been very instrumental to bringing this together saying, 'We gotta make a good Conan!' I think if we do this right, we can do two more Conan movies right after.
I think Game Of Thrones also shows a huge interest in fantasy. I’m psyched about it."

"The idea is that this takes place AFTER Conan has been king. But this is the legend of Conan where he has been gone and people say, 'do you remember the good ol' days when Conan was around?' And now it's time for him to come back.
In the stories and you can also see it when he's sitting on the thrown and the narration on that last scene of the movie..."with a troubled brow" ...you can tell he's not really happy being king. So, it's time for him to go out and do battle." Credit ArnoldFans.Com

Under The Dome Gets Renewed for Season 2

What originally started out as a one time summer series is getting a season 2. Ratings can change a lot of minds and with 16.7 million watching the 1st episode you figured this was coming.

Also it seems they have inked a deal with Amazon that will offset the budget of the episodes. That can not hurt. And the producers have opted for a story that may push passed the novel. Credit: Live Feed

"The Wolverine" Slashes the box office with International!!

Updated: With International Totals! The box office weekend looked REAL promising for The Wolverine. The 2nd installment of the Origins of Wolverine. Personally, I thought the 1st one was the best of the X-Men franchise movies with First Class being a close 2nd. Fact is I am a big superhero movie fan however, I was not impressed with any of the 3 X-Men movies. To me they pale in comparison to the Iron Mans, Dark Knights, and Man of Steels of the world.

Anyway, The Wolverine started very strong for the weekend. Opening with $21 million on Friday with a another $4 million from late night Thursday screenings. However, it has since taken a turn downward.

It will take number 1 at the Box Office but, it's going to struggle to hit $55 million. The original forecast was $65-80 million. Ouch. This also continues the string of big budget movies struggling. I will say this. This movie WILL NOT bomb. More than 50% of this movie's take will come overseas and with a $125 million budget. International totals just came in and they're huge. The Wolverine did $86 million in overseas money. That's $141 million worldwide and it blows past it's budget.

The Conjuring continues to get butts in the seats and will take number 2. Add another $22-24 million and you have a $85 million total for 2 weeks. Wow. The little horror movie that could. Add another $12 million overseas. And The Conjuring is at $95 million overall.

Despicable Me 2 grabbed another $16 million from the kids and parents. It has now grossed a insane $306 million in USA dollars.

Red 2 continued to struggle taking in another $8.7 million. That's a $34 million total in 2 weeks. Ouch. The 1st movie however, did big money overseas. Add $17 million overseas. That's $52 million total.

Pacific Rim (which I saw yesterday (yawn)) continues to go off strong word of mouth (I have no idea why) and critical acclaim grabbed $7.5 million for a $83 million USA total. Important to note it's made $185 million worldwide. The international came in and it's pretty big. Pacific Rim has now made $140 million worldwide. That gives it $224 million total and now $35 million passed it's budget.

Ahh, the box office drought may be over for high budgeted movies. The latest edition to the Marvel, X-Men family charged into theaters on Thursday night late screenings with a healthy $4 million.

The Wolverine expands into 3,900 plus theaters and another 62 overseas territories starting today.

Predictions have it between $70-$80 million for the weekend. And that's USA only.

Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling up for Star Wars Episode 7

Rumors are circulating that both Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling is possibly in on the 7th installment of the Star Wars franchise.

Latino Review also reported that Leonardo DiCaprio went in for a possible meeting and a role but, passed due to working on the Robotech project.

There is no role mentioned for Efron. However, Gosling MAY be up for the role of Luke Skywalker's son.

Gosling's people are stating the rumors are not true. We'll see.
