Horror At The Box Office
Horror At The Box Office
Well, we begin my friends with Haunting In Connecticut which scored a healthy $23 million dollars at the box office in its opening weekend. This is on par to be I believe the 3rd largest horror opening this year. If my memory serves me correct only Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine 3D opened higher. And Valentine just barely. The Knowing in its 2nd weekend pulled in a strong $14.7 million. Raising Nick Cage's thriller total to $46.6 million over two weeks. Very nice. Last House on the Left in its 3rd weekend hit $2.6 million and its now pulled in a nice $28.4 million. Its funny to note that John Cena's led 12 Rounds bombed big time with a sad $5 million in its opening weekend. The Uninvited took in $71,000 raising its total to $28.5 million. So its good to see horror is alive and strong at the box office.

Dead Snow aka Dod Sno Movie Review
Dead Snow aka Dod Sno Movie Review
For christ sakes. Once in a damn good while movies come around that make you set back and go god damn. This was it. I am a particular fan of the zombie genre. The best in my terms are Dawn of the Dead (the remake or original), both 28 Days and Weeks Later, and the original Day of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead and Army of Darkness in more comedy/horror terms. That being said Dead Snow does a little of all of the above. I must say. In a weeks time I've seen two of the best horror movies I've ever seen in Poughkeepsie Tapes and now Dead Snow. This movie centers on several folks taking a nice little vacation up in to the mountains to a cabin (Evil Dead anyone?). A unique combination of zombies, gore, a beautiful snow top mountain setting, a cabin all collide to make beautiful terror together. This is a zombie explosion of delight. Complete with evil Nazi zombies. Some unreal gore. Including a guy and a zombie hanging from a cliff by intestines. A woman waking up to being eaten alive. A guy chopping his arm off with a chainsaw straight up Bruce Campbell Evil Dead style. Balls being bitten by a zombie. Trapped under the snow escape. Frankly, this movie had just a little of everything. Even a sex scene right after a guy has taken a crap in a dirty ass outhouse. God how great is that?
These zombies are fucking mean bastards set on destruction. I must say it is beyond me that any horror zombie fan could see this movie and not love it.. There is some CGI gore but, not enough to take away from this masterpiece. This is a must own when it comes out. 5 gore infested axes out of 5.

PG 13 Horror Movies
PG 13 Horror Movies
With the success of Haunting in Connecticut it leads me to a article I've been meaning to sit down and write. Now is the time. First. Is there such a animal as a good PG 13 horror movie? And my next damn question would be have I ever even watched a PG 13 horror movie? WTF? I am not sure I have. Hell I have a hard time bringing myself to watch anything that says PG 13 in the horror genre. Immediately we know we can count out gore. Tits. hmmm. Brutalness. Rawness. Was White Noise PG 13? It was pretty decent. Then again may have just been Michael Keaton who is pretty damn good in anything. Disturbia? Blah. Prom Night? Didn't see it. Why? It was stamped with a PG 13 rating. Dare I say if Friday the 13th would've gotten a PG 13 rating I would have fucking boycotted the sum bitch. Signs was PG 13 and damn good but, I would call it a sci fi movie with a couple jump scares included. So thats out. Hmmm. Think about it. Is there really a good scary PG 13 horror movie? Army Of Darkness was PG 13 I think. But, it was a horror/comedy. Nope. It was Rated R. Sorry. That leads to me to believe the animal known as PG 13 horror does not exist. If you are a producer of a horror movie or director and you think you should "tone" it down so you can score higher at the box office beforwarned. Your movie I believe will be boycotted by many a hardcore horror fan. And if you think your movie won't make any money just read my article on horror dvd sales. People will buy your movie. If its not PG 13. Fuckers.

More White Trash Horror Please.
More White Trash Horror Please
Well, as I am sitting around today being Saturday and I am full of piss and vinegar. Thinking about horror fans while reading other of my favorite horror sites bash white trash horror over and over again. Funny, I got a lot of friends that dig this sorta of horror. And frankly, I love white trash horror. And in case you don't know what white trash horror is. Example: The Devil's Rejects, Halloween (remake). You can figure if Zombie directs it or any of the following show up in it: Diamond Dallas Page, Danny Trejo, Sid Haig, Michael Madsen, etc. Then you are watching possible white trash horror. So many people supposely hated these movies. Well, frankly I bet if you surveyed 1000 horror fans 800 of them liked these movies. Maybe less maybe more. But, it would be more than 50% by a damn sight. And I also feel that frankly, people have done what people on the internet do. Follow. They said wait "user name jack4money666" on some horror board said Zombie and Halloween sucked. Or white trash horror sucks and 20 people ran in right behind them to follow. I actually tend to believe some of these people that post actually like these movies however, are some how ashamed to admit it. Coming from a middle class family in Texas the one thing you acquire is friends, contacts and I will tell you several of them will be labeled what you might call "white trash". And frankly, walking in to some of these houses. Seeing how people live and the way their mind works is scary. Very. They don't clean. The guys and girls lay up and fuck and do meth and be worthless. Most of the guys have records for theft, possession of controlled substance, sales of drugs, domestic violence and some of the girls do too. And that makes for a scary and surreal environment to be around. Run down mobile homes, old houses (with several too many people living in them). So that being said white trash is scary. And when you take that environment and put somebody like Michael Myers in it. It makes fucking sense. If you take Otis and Mama Firefly from House and Devil's Rejects and put them in this environment it makes sense. A lot of these people you feel as you talk to them have some fucked up skeletons in their closet and while some horror fans may not relate to this. I can. And knowing that frankly, I may have walked through someones house over the years that may in fact live a lifestyle very similar to the Myers' family. Those movies do in fact become scary. So I say to Zombie keep making white trash horror. Some of us do in fact "get it".

WWMD Shirt from Halloween The Devil Walks Among Us
While everybody seems to be getting more fired up for Zombie's sequel I am not sure I am. I was extremely fired up in the beginning however, this T Shirt and some of the things I'm hearing just really are turning me off. This guy's name in the movie is Chett "the bringer of death" Johns and was arrested outside a book signing for Dr. Loomis. Wtf? lol.. Anyway, take a look at the pic.
Angels and Demons getting boycott from Vatican
Angels and Demons getting boycott from Vatican
Well. Well. Well. Looks as if the Vatican has stepped in and put the hex of death on the sequel to the Da Vinci Code. Tom Hanks follow up to the thriller also stars another heavyweight Ewan "Old Ben Kenobi" McGregor. This looks like a great movie and I believe I will have to see it boycott or not. lol. Please they did the same to the Da Vinci Code. Did people not see it? Hmmm. $760 million world wide gross at the box office says they must have not got that call from god.

Horror DVD Sales
I was tolling around the internet and found some very interesting numbers related to dvd sales and horror movies. And exactly why movies like Halloween, Saw keep getting made. Here are some examples. In 2007 Halloween's Rob Zombie remake landed a cool $26.6 million dollars off of dvd sales. Also The Hills Have Eyes 2 took in a nice $23.3 million dollars off of dvd sales. Grindhouse which everybody believes bombed however, with a cool $27 million on dvd in sales I would say it did pretty damn good. A highly underrated 1408 with John Cusack and Sam Jackson landed a huge $37 million on dvd sales. Disturbia? How about $29.8 million on dvd. Saw? How about Saw III with a monster $45.5 million on dvd sales. How about Ghost Rider was a decent hit at the box office. But, did you have any idea it made $98 million on dvd sales???? Wow. All of those movies were in the top 100 of the best selling dvds in 2007. Then how about 2008? The Happening $20 million. How about Skinwalkers? $20 million. Aliens vs Predator 2? $27 million. Saw IV $31 million. I Am Legend a monster $126 million. Resident Evil 3 got a cool $34 million dollars. This year? Quarantine raped dvd buyers to the tune of $8 million dollars. Saw V took in another $21 million. And we're just through March. I thought it was very interesting to check movies that people didn't really think made any money. Skinwalkers taking in $20 million? Did anybody see that coming? Or one of my guilty pleasures The Hills Have Eyes 2 landing $23 million? Makes me feel better for owning most of these movies. lol. Guess I am not alone.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes Movie Review
The Poughkeepsie Tapes Movie Review
So, I just got through watching The Poughkeepsie Tapes and I must say. This was one of the most realistic mind fucking movies I have ever seen. Its a false documentary based on a serial killer from Poughkeepsie and the tapings of his brutal crimes. This movie is truely in some way a masterpiece. Very much in a way the Blair Witch was rattling this movie brought about those same vibes. It details in some way (almost A and E documentary like) a serial killer and his progression. From beginning to well, no end. They have false interviews with everybody involved FBI, police, victims, the tapes of the murders, torture (which is particularly gory but, still rattling). A very unique surprise is the fact that no one seems to have been off limits. Rarely do we have a horror movie deal with murdering of children or a extreme plot in which a police officer is framed for the murders and the killer gets to now have one of his own victims die by the hands of the legal system. The interviews are pretty realistic. I will say the biggest and maybe the only draw back is a couple of the ladies playing FBI or policewomen were not great actors.
But, it a way this helped the realism of this movie. And as much as I will say I liked this movie because of its extreme uniqueness I won't see this again for a while. Because, I tend to steer toward horror movies that make me enjoy being scared. This made me want to never let anyone I care about out of my sight. And almost paranoid of everyday life. Some people may see this and think its just a cheap ripoff of a A and E documentary however, they I believe should have their movie watching card withdrawn from their hand and told to never watch another movie again. This movie will make a lot of people really think. And go what the fuck did I just watch. And more so. Wow. That was pretty fucked up. I get it 5 fucked up axes out of 5. I would say buy it but, don't. Rent it. Watch it. And take a break. Your going to need it. Also, the director John Erick Dowdle I can not believe upon researching your films you did Quarantine. Now I understand why it was in the dark. Ashamed you went for too much realism in that movie.
Last House on the Left (2009) Movie Review
Last House on the Left (2009) Movie Review
Ok, so I "finally" got to go see the remake of one of the "supposely" most shocking movies ever. Now, I am going to say the original seems SO dated to me. Its music is hokie as hell. The interaction is pretty bad. The acting I thought wasn't so great. There were some fair moments in the original but, I couldn't wait for them to put a new spin and most importantly "feel" on that old movie. So this movie stars Tony "Kiss The Girls, Jason Lives, Ghost" Goldwyn, Monica "Con Air, Saw" Potter, and Garret "Deadwood, No Country for Old Men" Dillahunt. Although, the movie kept some of the premise of the old one a few things were changed. But, nothing that I would say disrepected the original. The acting wasn't going to win any Oscars but, its a damn sight better than anything in the original. Krug was a bad mother fucker and frankly did a good job. I will say I would've liked to have seen his brother and his girlfriend have more creepyness to them. They seemed kind of toned down. I thought they both seemed a bit more twisted some how in the original. We thankfully, have none of the stupid cops in this one. Tony Goldwyn is damn strong as a pissed off father. And after he realizes they have raped his daughter does a fine job of portraying a mad as hell father. I've heard several folks say the rape scene was terrible but, frankly I thought it seemed a little toned down. There was some gore in this movie and frankly much less than expected which did disappoint me. I really felt this was a chance to really make a great torture movie. I was hoping for part Hills Have Eyes, Saw, and Hostel mixed with Last House on the Left. However, I didn't get it. Wait. Till the very end. And when you see the ending (if you haven't already read about it) then you will know what I mean. Although, I've read the endings terrible and blah blah blah. I have to say I thought it was damn creative frankly. And it makes me look forward to a possible unrated cut on dvd. In conclusion, the remake was far and away better than the original. It will look a helluva lot better 30 years from now than the original does now. Sadly as its loved for being a classic much like the original chainsaw time just hasn't been kind to it. Anyway, I say this remake is a definite buy when it hits dvd especially on a unrated cut. And gets a definite good score. 4.0 out of 5.0 axes.

Quarantine (REC Remake) Movie Review
Quarantine (REC Remake) Movie Remake
Ok, so FINALLY I get to the review for this movie. As I was seriously had been wanting to see this movie for months. That being said. Damn. This movie was supposed to be in the vain of something like 28 Days Later where a virus like situation breaks out in a apartment building. This movie stars Jennifer Carpenter and Jay "Hostel" Hernandez. It starts out promising in a very fun filled spirited back and forth session between Carpenter and the fire fighters as they start building the characters. Carpenter and her camera man are there filming a story on firefighters and a day in the life of for news station. Well. This was probably the most interesting the part of the movie. We get to the apartment building and find a old woman that is bloody and losing it very zombie like. Attacking. Once again promising still. Then... We lose the lights. And you know I'm all for making a fucking movie realistic. But, shit man. Who turned out the fucking lights? Really? The last half of the whole movie is in the dark other than a 5 inch place where the camera light is supposed to be. Sad part is. This movie may have rocked if we could've seen what was actually happening. I mean darkening the room but, let us be able to see things for christ sakes. By the time it was over I was just pissed. Do to the fact that this movie had all the potential in the world and then bam. Over. The only thing scary was I rented a movie that essentially I was "in the dark" about and hell saw it and still am. Let us see these fuckers killing everyone. I love zombie, virus breakouts, living dead movies. And this my friends had some elements of cool. But, being blinded by darkness I can't remember what they were. I'll say we should have stayed at the fire station... And watched a episode of Rescue Me. Which is 10 times better than this shit will EVER be. Bastards. 1.0 axes out 5. 1.0 for them just being able to get me to spend 4.99 on this shit. Ya'll got me.
New Wolverine TV Spot
So far this is my favorite Wolverine TV Spot or Trailer. Showing all the various characters in what could completely renew my faith in what was a disappointing 3 some of comic movies (X Men). I am fired up for this movie.

Horror At the Box Office (Sorta)
Ok, so this week we saw the release of more of a thriller - sci fi oriented flick "The Knowing" from Nick Cage being released wide. And the 2nd week of Last House on the Left. The Knowing scored a number 1 with a good but, not great $24.8 million dollars. Last House on the Left did what most horror movies do drop big in their 2nd frame. Racking up a still nice $5.9 million in route to $24 million in its so far 2 week run. Liam Neesom's great thriller The Taken made $4.1 million and now has made a HUGE $133 million. The Watchmen took in $6.7 million and has made $98 million total. A nice total but, the budget is $150 million. Important to note its still gonna make a ton of money. Worldwide its grossed $147 million. So its $3 million from turning a profit. The Uninvited "invited" another $177,000 to raise it to $28.4 million. Very strange note. It looks like Friday the 13th dropped out of the top 50. Even though as of Thursday it was still the 21st movie in release. I figure its about to start its dollar theater run. Thats it. Really only two horror movies in release at the box office right now. Taken and The Knowing are more thrillers than anything.

Reports are coming in that Nick Cage's latest offering The Knowing took in a healthy $8.9 million dollars on Friday heading it clearly toward the $25 million dollar range. Snyder's Watchmen has grabbed up a healthy $93.3 million dollars and Taken now sets at $130 million after Friday's $1.3 million.

Friday the 13th Box Office
I feel it imperative that I continue to update the horror world on so far my horror movie of the year. Yes, I loved the Friday the 13th reboot. And although, its quickly become a loved it or hated it movie for horror fans its important to note that it has now pushed over $85 million worldwide which means its a hell of a box office take for the horror world and Friday the 13th franchise. Officially, it sets at $86,227,529 million dollars. It also sets $7 million dollars past Rob Zombie's Halloween remake which grossed $79 million worldwide.

Ok, so this looks like I Know What You Did Last Summer Part 4 (yes, there is a part 3 and I didn't make it through 20 minutes of it and sadly I actually enjoyed the first two). This is your typical somebody dies and they decide to hide it and somebody comes back and kills everybody. Notably, Carrie Fisher from Starwars is in this.

Our Most Anticipated Movie Poll
Our Most Anticipated Movie Poll
Well, there was a 3 way tie between Friday the 13th Part 2 (2010), Halloween: The Devil Walks Among Us, and 28 Months Later for the 3 most anticipated horror movies over the next couple years. Course alot can happen in horror to change minds in the next couple years. And I'm still getting used to that new Halloween title.
Ron Silver Passes
The Great Ron Silver Passed Away after a bout with cancer. Ron Silver played in many great genre movies and will be missed. Maybe his most famous role was in the Timecop opposite Jean Claude Van Damme in his prime. And also in the highly underrated "The Arrival" with Charlie Sheen. Ron Silver was in nearly 80 movies. And numerous TV shows. Ron Silver was 62.
Halloween Casts Lois Lane and a new subtitle?
In some exciting news for fan boys everywhere Margot Kidder of Amityville Horror and Superman fame has join the cast of Halloween H2. Wait. No, the next title. Halloween: The Devil Walks Among Us. What? Ok. Yikes. Guess Halloween: The Devil's Rejects was taken. Anyway, I don't care I'm still fired up for this.

Horror Box Office - Last House On The Left
Horror Box Office - Last House On The Left
Looks like horror did good but, not great over the weekend. Last House on the Left (remake) pulled in a estimated $14.7 million dollars as a opening haul. Opening vs a Disney Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson movie couldn't have helped. It took in $25 million while The Watchmen dropped a healthy 67% to gross $18.1 million. Which should make Friday the 13th film makers not feel so bad for having a 80% drop. It seems to be the going thing with genre pics lately. The thriller Taken continues to hold unbelievably strong with $6.6 million and hows now "Taken" in a huge $126 million. Which I have seen this movie and it is great. Friday the 13th took in $600,000 raising its US total to $64.3 million. The Uninvited scored another $335,000 raising its total to $28.1 million. The Unborn and My Bloody Valentine 3D looks to have dropped out of theaters for the most part. So with Last House I would tend to guess it will end up in the neighborhood of $40 million in the US. No word on international grosses. And Friday the 13th is just shy of breaking the $85 million mark with international grosses figured in. On a side note Last House opened in like 2,400 theaters. To compare Friday opened in like 3,100. If Last House would've opened in that many theaters at a $6,000 per theater gross it would have been more like $18.6 million.
Dawn Of The Dead (Remake) Movie Review
Dawn Of The Dead (Remake) Movie Review
Ok, here we are again for another horror movie review. This time the directorial debut of one Zack Snyder. The director that would go on to director two monster hits in 300 and Watchmen. And frankly this movie made a cool $102 million and was a real horror smash. It stars the great Ving Rhames, Sarah Polley, Jake Weber, and a really cool performance from Michael Kelly as everybodies favorite redneck asshole turned bad ass good guy before its all said and done. Now, the thing I loved about this movie is it took zombies and just put them steriods basically. They were fast moving hateful fucks in which there was no escape. It also has one of the best openings with a little girl being scary as fuck trying to eat Sarah Polley and her boyfriend. And you remember the scene where she leaps back to her feet and rushes the door. Damn. Zack really made a point to development some characters you really wanted to see live and some you couldn't wait to see die. Mix in some of the best gore of any damn movie in a long time (especially when it came out). And you had a remake that really fucking worked and basically along with 28 Days Later launched the re-birth of the zombie horror world. Throw in cameos from the original Dawn from Ken Foree and Tom Savini and this movie oozed with coolness. Not to mention one serious soundtrack with Johnny Cash and Disturbed. Not to mention the lounge hotel music of Down with the Sickness. This made this is a serious winner with me. Its a must own for any horror fan and one of my top 20 favorite horror movies of all time. And wait till the birthing scene. Oh yeah a real oh fuck moment in movie history. 5 out of 5 axes. Enjoy this masterpiece of horror goodness.
My Take On Movie Critics
My Take On Movie Critics
Ok, I know that as I run this site as a horror fan I do movie reviews however, their movie reviews from a horror fan. It drives me crazy that main stream movie critics continue to even bother to go to fucking horror movies. Whats the point? I mean they all walk out with a well that was "torture" porn or another "buncha of teens with tits dying deaths". Well no shit? Really? Its a horror movie. Its not going to be The Piano. Or the English Patient. Ever. So give it up. Siskel and Ebert used to be the worst back in the 80's. Especially with Friday the 13th movies. And what got me ranting was reading a review about Last House on the Left the remake on a very popular movie web site that I actually enjoyed for years. And then bam. The dumbest shit I've ever heard. Its refers to the ending of Last House. Now I won't ruin it as I haven't even seen it yet though I'm hoping to this next week. They say something like any shred of artistic magic this movie had hoped to grab died with the ending of this movie. Blah blah blah. If you are a horror fan and don't care for the ending fine. But, some how I feel a horror fan wasn't looking for some "artistic" climax anyway. For fuck sakes its a horror movie. Good chance if you go to a horror movie its going to have gore, people dieing, tits, ass, pot, drugs, torture, traps, more boobs, rape, etc. Again. You went to a horror movie. I would much rather here the argument that I don't want to see it cause I don't want to be scared. Fine. I can live with that. Point is. Its not your kind of movie. But, if your a movie critic. I would hope your spectrum of movie likes stretch far enough to be able to appreciate a chainsaw sawing a fucking leg off from time to fucking time. Horror fans know exactly what I am talking about. Anyway, movie critics. I say stick to your boring artistic "works of art". And I will choose not to see it. But, stop dogging these movies for being exactly what their supposed to be.

Estimated Friday Box Office for Last House
Estimated Friday Box Office for Last House
Estimates are posting on the web now of the Friday's Last House on the Left Remake take. So far its showing a solid $5.5 million. This puts it on point to rake in somewhere between $15-20 million for the weekend. Yet, another good haul for horror. However, it had two issues. It opened vs Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Race for Witch Mountain and the 2nd week of the Watchmen. Witch Mountain looks to have taken Friday with $6.5 million. One thing to point out also is the fact that Last House opened in a mere 2,400 theaters. Witch Mountain opened in 3,100. Its possible if not likely Last House would be ahead with the same amount of theaters.

Underworld Rise of the Lycans gets DVD and Blu Ray Dates
Although, I know the in vogue thing to do right now is to say the new Underworld was the best but, personally I still like the first one the best. That being said Rise of the Lycans was damn close. Anyway, now we have specs and release dates for the new Underworld.
This title will arrive May 12th. The DVD will feature:
• Filmmaker commentary
• "Deathclub" music video by William Control
• 3 featurettes ("Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - From Script to Screen", "The Origin of the Feud", "Re-Creating the Dark Ages - The Look of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans")
Exclusive to Blu-ray release (including all of the above):
• Behind the Castle Walls: Picture-in-Picture feature
• Lycanthropes Around the World Interactive Map
Halloween H2 vs Final Destination 4 at the box office
Halloween H2 vs Final Destination 4 at the box office
Well, in news that to me is bad. At least for horror fans. Its looks as if both of these large horror movies will open against each other at the box office. Both of these flicks are now scheduled to open on August 28, 2009. Personally, I see one of the two movie spots. Because frankly, they could end up killing each other and a third non horror movie would step in and take the box office. Bad deal for both movies. Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell Trailer
Finally, the anticipated trailer to Sam Raimi's horror with Drag Me to Hell.
Now, that i've devoured this trailer like 4 times I must come back and say that frankly, I really not fired up for this any more. It just did not put me on my ass. Don't get me wrong. I love Raimi. The first two Spider-man movies are among the top 10 superhero movies ever. And Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness are two of horror's great flicks. That being said I'll still be there to see this movie as soon as it opens. And will give a review when I do. Stay Tuned.

Return of the Living Dead Part 2 Movie Review
Return of the Living Dead Part 2 Movie Review
Ok, kiddies we have Return of the Living Dead Part 2. I also remember seeing this one as a kid and frankly, I could remember very little about it. I will say this. I actually enjoyed this one more than the first one. This one features several returning characters from the first one in different roles ala' everybody in Rob Zombie's flicks. Which personally I don't mind but, I realize a lot of people hate this. Anyway, this movie to me was more serious than the first one but, still had a pretty big mix of comedy, horror, zombies, and campy film making. This movie features Thom Mathews and James Karen from the original as different characters however, they both get exposed to gas again and once again end with a bad turn for them. Thom Mathews is much less annoying in this sequel than in the first. James Karen is funny as hell. Also noted for having a zombie dressed in a Michael Jackson coat and a brief cameo appearance from Tar Man. This movie made a estimated $9 million which for 1988 is not bad. Anyway, this movie I thought had a notably better score and to me a better story with 3 boys discovering a canister that had fallen off the back of a truck. It just had the feel of the good old 80's horror movies that did not take themselves overly seriously. Which frankly, I enjoy. This movie is most definitely a worthy follow up to the first one. I definitely believe its worth a rent and/or a buy on a cheap rack some where. I give it 3.5 out 5 axes.
Finally!! Tommy Jarvis Returns!
Finally!! The Return of Tommy Jarvis!!!
How the hell this story is not everywhere I don't know. But, Fridaythe13thfilms.Com dropped some major freaking info on the most popular non Jason Voorhees character in Friday lore. The one and the only Tommy Jarvis is making his return in Freddy vs Jason vs Ash 2. Yes, guys sorry its a comic I know. But, its HUGE anyway. No one knows if it would be the grown up Feldman, Shephard, or Mathews version. I'm hoping its the Thom Mathews version.

28 Weeks Later Movie Review
28 Weeks Later Movie Review
Ok, so I have been wanting to do the review for 28 Days and Weeks Later for quite some time and just haven't had the time to do it. And I figured since I was off I'd sit down. Watch' em both again and give my take. Now, I'll start with 28 Weeks Later just because its the one I grabbed first and popped in. It starts out during the time span of the first one with a group of people thats posted themselves up in hiding in a farmhouse. Nice and quite and living some what well under the conditions and circumstances. Now, this one is produced but, not directed by Danny Boyle. Its directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo which did a great job in this movie of keeping some elements of the first one which was a very raw feel in certain areas but, in some spots giving it a slicker feel. Robert Carlyle and his wife Catherine McCormack are the owners of the farmhouse in which they have a little boy show up. This little boy of course is trying to hide from the infected. Which now know there are people in the house. And that of course where this all falls apart. During the events Carlyle jumps ship and heads down river in a tremendous and gory opening sequence. Then we flash forward "28 weeks later". All is being rebuilt and citizens are being brought back in to a warzone type living situation where the US service have taken up post in a effort to keep things normal. Well, the kids of Robert Carlyle come in to join their dad and like normal kids go explore in areas they shouldn't and find their mom is still alive. Which when you watch the film you will understand what I mean. All hell later breaks loose as somebody becomes infected and the army has locked everybody in to a room to shelter them while they get control only an infected gets in to the room and infects them and they all pour out over the town. This time a doctor discovers the boy may be key to a possible cure and decides to shelter him and a US sniper setups to assist the 3 in an escape. Well, over the course of trying to exit to a safe location many members of their party drop get killed etc. Now, some will argue that this is not as good as the first. But, my feeling is its as good. There is a some great gore. Jeremy Renner is excellent in his role as the sniper and Robert Carlyle is a sob. But, some how a likable sob. It does lack the acting power of its original. There is no replacing Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and the highly underappreciated Christopher Eccleston. And the best part of the sequel is the ending. I believe which gives you a glimpse of the things to come. I give it 5 out of 5 axes. A must own for horror, zombie fans.
Mickey Rourke the villian in Rambo 5
In some holy shit news. I understand Rambo 4 wasn't a horror movie. But, Sly went through guys with a machete in a way that Jason Voorhees himself would've said damn. And was a awesomely gory mess. And for that reason I am utterly pumped that news is coming out of Britain (Wtf) that Mickey Rourke (who is friends with Sly) may be the villian for Rambo 5. Jesus, I hope this is true. I will actually fork up theater fees to check it out. Rambo 4 was a huge hit worldwide making a cool $113 million worldwide and a whopping $38 million more on dvd. Goes to show action is making a comeback.

Freddy Krueger, Jigsaw, Candyman all got a vote. To my surprise nobody voted for Leatherface or Ash Williams. Well. Looks like Jason Lives!!
Watchmen Scores Big At Box Office
Watchmen Scores Big At Box Office
Well, the Watchmen scored large at the box office. Just maybe not as large as many expected. The Watchmen still had the largest opening of the year. Dark superhero scored a estimated $55.7 million dollars. And one of the biggest openings ever for a R Rated flick. And being a comic superhero fan. For some odd reason the "only" reason I want to see this is Zack Snyder. 300 and Dawn of the Dead were great. And I like his style. So. And just to give you a heads up. Friday the 13th landed another $1.5 million. Not bad considering it dropped 1,000 theaters this week. It has now scored $82 million worldwide. I see it closing some where in the neighborhood of $90 million total. A huge hit for $19 million budgeted film.

Watchmen scores big in midnight showings
Warner Bros.' "Watchmen" grossed $4.6 million in Thursday midnight runs, more than double the midnight gross for Zack Snyder's previous film "300."
Pic played more than 1,595 midnight run across the country.
All of the 124 Imax midnight runs were sold out to the point that the exhib added 3 a.m. shows. Imax says much of the weekend is sold out.
Today, "Watchmen" officially opens in a total 3,611 theaters. That's the widest theater count ever for an R-rated film.
"300" grossed $70.9 million in its opening weekend in early March 2006 and had a Thursday midnight gross of $2.5 million. Box observers believe "Watchmen" will beat that weekend number, despite its lengthy running time of 2:40. Especially after Fandango recently reported that 92% of its tickets sales were for "Watchmen." (As of 9:00 a.m. PST, Friday, March 6th)
"Watchmen" is Snyder's first directorial outing since "300."

Return of the Living Dead Movie Review
Return of the Living Dead Movie Review
Ok, so tonight was a netflix night and the gf and me watched a 80's horror classic Return of the Living Dead. This movie is directed by Dan O'Bannon and stars Clu Glulager and Thom Mathews. Both great genre actors including Mathews playing the iconic Tommy Jarvis in Jason Lives Friday Part 6. I must say I had seen this movie but, it was years ago. Maybe 15 or 20 years ago so I didn't remember much about it other than Mathews being in it and I think thats just because I had seen Jason Lives a million times. Now, this is a zombie pic with horror and comedy elements. It is also remembered for 3 things. Some over the top gore, a red spiked hair chick in full frontal nudity, and its comedic tone. This movie was not like your zombie toned movie like Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, or its sequel. This was more in the vein of Shaun of the Dead. I must say if by chance if you haven't seen this you really should check it out. The movie is full of funny moments, and several moments that are just terrible but, in a great cheesy 80's horror way. Thom Mathews will drive you nuts as a whiny Freddy who is exposed to gas that causes him to eventually become a living dead member. Its a complete popcorn flick. And if you really don't dig horror/comedies that its best you should just stay away from this one. Even though I don't usually care for them myself this is an exception. Its campy and fun. And definitely worth a rent minimum. Maybe even a buy on a marked down rack. I give it 3.5 out of 5 axes.
