Official Release Date for "The Road" Changed
Some interesting news regarding the film adaptation of "The Road" involving it having a new release date. It will reportly hit theaters now October 16th. This movie stars some hollywood heavy hitters namely Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Guy Pierce (all 3 are some of my favorite actors), and Charlize Theron. It involves a road trip where a man tries to transport his son to safety after a nuclear explosion. One catch? Theres cannibals along the way. Man, this sounds kick ass.

The Dead Air Poster
Ok, so I am a massive Bill Moseley (TCM 2, House of 1000 Corpses) fan. And here's the poster/one sheet for his upcoming zombie flick Dead Air. Plays a DJ that is the voice for a city under seige. But, then has to jump in to action to get to his family. This is also a Corbin "Roger Dorn" Bernsen flick.

Ok, so people won't go see the seriously charged up Crank 2 however, they flocked to see the supposed thriller Obsessed with Beyonce and Ali Larter (Final Destination, Resident Evil: Extinction). To the insane tune of $28.5 million dollars. Wow. Really? And then theres Fighting which opened third with $11.4 million. The Soloist landed $9.7 million in the Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. The movie looks great honestly and I can't wait to see it. Fast and Furious grabbed another $6.6 million raising its total to a massive $145 million in the US. Wow. The Knowing grabbed $1.9 million and now has broken $75 million in the US and the Worldwide $101 million dollar mark. The Haunting In Connecticut has garnered a strong $54 million dollars. On a lesser note. The docu Tyson about Mike Tyson and his rise and fall. Which I have seen is terrific. It opened in only 11 theaters but, earned a respectable $7,800 per screen for $86,000. If you get a chance to see it you need to. I've got a whole new respect for Tyson and also we get a true perspective of the ear biting fight with Holyfield which opened my eyes as to who was the dirty fighter.

Dead Alive movie review
Dead Alive movie review
Ok, so we have what many believe is a horror classic in Dead Alive directed by the now Spielberg like famous Peter Jackson. Well, I must say I love zombie movies. Dawn of the Dead (original or remake), 28 Days and Months Later, Day of the Dead (original). Then we have the zombie movies that like to have some comedic elements. Hmmmm. I really loved Shaun of the Dead. But, honestly I like Simon Pegg movies and I believe it had nothing to do with zombies as to the reason I enjoyed it. I am a much bigger fan of serious zombie movies. Ones with a nice amount of gore and serious in your face zombies. I must say I was disappointed in this movie after hearing so much about it. It was like watching Gremlins with zombies. Which is fine. If I'm watching with Gremlins with Gremlins. But, this is zombies and even though I got a chuckle out of the little baby dead zombie laughing and running around. It just got old pretty fast. There was some great gore but, it was that old school gore that almost looked way to fake to keep trying to use it. Now, I would love to see someone remake this and make it serious. That would be a serious flick. It had some extremely cool and original gore moments but, it did not save this movie for me. It was just trying to be damn goofy for my taste. Sorry horror fans. Its a decent one time watch but, after a while it just got on my damn nerves. I give 2.5 out of 5 axes.

My Bloody Valentine 2? Negative
Well, its breaking on the net now that there will not be a My Bloody Valentine 2. Its bad news consider the first (remake) was a pretty damn good slasher flick.
Speaking at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, Lussier says the studio was surprised by the film's box-office success, but doesn't want to develop a follow-up and would prefer to leave the film as a one-shot.
Lussier and writer Todd Farmer have each said they have an idea as to where to go with a second chapter.

Box Office Totals - Horror at the Box Office
Box Office Totals - Horror at the Box Office
There were no new entries in to the thriller or horror genre in wide release this week. The only real entry I was paying attention to was Crank 2: High Voltage which surprisingly only brought in $6.5 million in its first weekend. Which is a little strange as its first flick developed a big cult following on video. Course, as with most Jason Statham movies it will probably do big business on video. 17 Again won the weekend with $24 million. Yuck. State of Play with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck took 2nd with $14 million. Fast and Furious had another solid take of $12.6 million raising its US take to $136 million. And worldwide take to a massive $227 million. The Knowing had a $3.4 million take raising its total to $73.6 million in the US and $98 million worldwide. Will definitely break the $100 million mark shortly. The Haunting in Connecticut broke the famed $50 million dollar mark with a $3.1 million take. Its now taken $51 million which is definitely a hit in the horror world. Last House on the Left has now taken in over $32 million. Also a solid horror hit for the year. With Friday the 13th remaining the big winner so far this year.

Crank 2 does not get Crunk - Box Office Opening Friday
Well, I hate to say it but, the sequel to one of my favorite movies Crank is not getting crunk at the box office. I kind of felt it was going to opening better than the first due to many cult fans of the movie. Anyway, it opened to $2.6 million on Friday with 5 other movies ahead of it. 17 Again opened with $9.5 million which leads me to ask movie goers what the fuck are you spending your movie to see? Jesus. State of Play made half of that with $4.5 million which is sad when you consider a quality actor like Russell Crowe is in it and the movie looks great. Fast and Furious held with $3.8 million raising its total to $128 million in the US alone.

Developed by Zombie Studios and based on the incredibly successful film franchise from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, SAW uses the incredible graphic capabilities of the next generation consoles, to create a terrifying experience that offers truly unique gameplay features that will allow players to pit their wits against Jigsaw and make their choice...live or die.

The Children Movie Review
The Children Movie Review
Ok, so I got around to seeing The Children. Mind you going in to this I was all fired up for what was supposed to be a horrific affair involving evil little kids murdering their parents. This movie has been getting unreal reviews. So imagine my surprise to find this movie was fucking terrible. Maybe, in all fairness its the fact that these little kids did not scare me one fucking bit. I just kept thinking will somebody get a belt and bust their little ass? Sorry guys but, my folks did believe in whipping my ass. And it worked. I actually can not believe that people are loving this movie. It was a UK pic. Which I have no issues with some of my favorite horror movies are from the UK. I just wasted a hour and half of life I will never ever get back. It involves a Xmas get together between rich relatives that are smug and wanting to home school their children. And their the "we don't spank our children types". The only likable character was Casey who ends up killing off most of the kids until the end when her mom finally shows up with a nice car ramming kills. Some body said "their is plenty of gore in this one!" Really? Where in the hell was it. Some blood does not make for gore. If you need a more definition watch Hostel. Or Saw. Or something besides this hunk of crap. Anyway, for no apparent reason kids start offing the parents (which frankly I didn't care much for so fuck em'). And that does not make for a good horror film when you do not care about characters living or dieing. The children wasn't particularly scary. This film was directed by Tom Shankland wasn't particularly terrible far as direction and the acting wasn't bad. I think my issue was story. It just was not rattling to me in anyway. The children weren't scary or maybe the concept of them killing wasn't scary. Either way this film did not work for me. I'm glad I've at least seen it to even out the "great reviews" its gotten because frankly, for indie horror give me Splinter for the 3rd time now. 1 ax out of 5. The 1 is for the camera being in focus. lol.
Hannah Wins but, The Fast stays Furious - Horror Box Office
Hannah Wins but, The Fast stays Furious
Well, with all the little kiddies being out of school for good Friday Hannah Montana the Movie took the number 1 spot at the box office with a nice $34 million dollars. Definitely a good opening weekend. The Fast stayed Furious at 2nd with additional $28.8 million dollars and bringing its US total to a BIG $118 million after 2 weeks. And worldwide a $148 million dollars. Making it a already nice $60 million dollar profit. Wow. Guess you can go home again. Seth Rogan's comedy Observe and Report grabbed a decent $11 million. Opening vs Hannah didn't help. Nick Cage's The Knowing is knowing its a hit with another $6.6 million raising its US total to $68 million and its worldwide take to $93 million. The Haunting in Connecticut held strong with another $5.7 million. A US total of $46 million makes it a horror hit. And I'm suspecting it could finish in the $55 million neighborhood. Its already at $49 million worldwide. Last House on the Left made another $558,000. Raising its total to a respectable $31.7 million. On a side note a hit overseas Dragonball's film debut in the US sucked. A poor $4 million. Ouch. Taken took another $1.1 million and taking it to a monster $141 million. This movie has pulled in another $76 million internationally. Jesus $217 million for one of my favorite actors Liam Neesom who never gets enough love. The Watchmen should be thankful for the international crowd as its taken in $71 million overseas and $106 million in the US. With a budget of $150 million. Its made a nice profit now and dvd sales I'm sure will push it to another level.

Splinter Movie Review
Splinter Movie Review
Ok, so we live in a day and time in horror where so many people love indie movies like Laid to Rest which was in many ways almost fucking unwatchable due to some extremely poor acting even as much as the gore tried to save it. Or the acting is fair and watchable but, the story is terrible or screenplay is bad. Or the acting and screenplay is ok but, there isn't enough money for effects and their terrible make the movie tough to sit through as well. Then comes along once in a blue or full moon a movie like The Poughkeepsie Tapes or Splinter. And Splinter for me is exactly what I feel is a great indie horror movie. The actors were all strong. In particular Shea Whigham and Jill Wagner. Both veterans of TV. Jill was in Blade the series which aired on Spike. Shea is actually in a role of the now mega hit Fast and Furious. Shea was quite believable as a con that was on the run after murdering a trucker during a failed big rig heist. Polly (Jill Wagner) and her nerdy ass boyfriend Seth (Paulo Costanzo) went out for a camping trip which they decide after breaking the tent to abort. Now at this point I was scared this movie was going to suck because I immediately believed this was going to be about that little varmit that got after the gas station attendant at the beginning but, wasn't. Thank god. Because we then pickup with Dennis (Shea Whigham) and his girlfriend methhead Lacey (played well by Lacey Belisle) having truck trouble. Leaving their truck and being picked up by Polly and Seth. Which of course become hostages. They hit something in the road. Which looks a lot like the varmit at the beginning. Complete with little spikeys everywhere which is what knocked out the tire. Which Dennis gets a Splinter in his finger. Well, anyway, at this point we end up back at the gas station. Where we find out this is not about spikey killer varmits but, much much more about a almost "The Thing" like creature which has been taken over by the spikes which act as almost a virus like parasite that takes over its host. Now the effects in this indie movie were quite strong. There was at no time did I feel something looked cheap.. or CGI'd up. No sir. Its very hard to make a hand on the floor moving look decent. But, they pull it off. Seth gives a fairly good understanding of the parasite because as luck would have it he is a biology major. So this is a stand off in the gas station with very good interaction between the characters. Which adds to the movie because you find yourself hoping they all make it. Especially, Dennis who is the scum bag white trash con but, becomes our hero at the end. Anyway, this movie is a monster in the horror indie genre and should be the blueprint of a great indie horror movie! Acting. Story. Interaction of characters. Effects. Gore. Fantastic suspenseful ending. I give this 4.5 out of 5 axes. Director Toby Wilkins should get a pat on the back for this horror flick. So far my friend you have the one of the horror movies I've seen this year.

Horror Box Office - Friday
While there is nothing new in horror opening this week I will still give you a update on box office for Friday. Hannah Montana opened to a big $17.4 million as the kiddies came out. Blah. The Fast and Furious looks to have a pretty large 2nd weekend in position at number 2 adding another $10.9 million and raising its total to $99 million in the US. And a monster $130 million worldwide. The scifi thriller The Knowing raked in another $2.3 million on Friday and raising its take to $63 million. Along with the $25 million its grabbed internationally its now nailed $88 million dollars. The Haunting in Connecticut held its ground with $2.3 million raising its total to $42.9 million which is highly respectable for a horror flick. Also Taken with broke the $140 million dollar mark in one of the biggest hits of the year.

Laid To Rest My Review
Laid To Rest My Review
Wow. Rarely, does a movie come around that I have been so torn on when wanting to do a review. This is a movie that in the horror world is getting much pub. And frankly, it comes so close to being a good slasher movie that its sad when it just falls short. Now the first half of this movie is almost painful to watch. Bobbi Sue Luther was just unwatchable in playing a girl thats lost her memory. And I mean terrible and she pretty much ruined this movie for me. However, Kevin Gage is strong as Tucker who is sorta the hero figure in this movie and to me almost saves the entire film. Kevin Gage to me plays alot of likable characters in movies even when he plays a jerk off. Which surprisely he does not do in this movie. I kept waiting for him to become a redneck jerk off and he never does. Which is tremendous. Now Chromeskull.... Hmmm... I'm sorry there was nothing scary about this shiny skull on a guys face. Now if they could've made it with a dirty raw look. Maybe. I will say this. The movie has some wonderful kills. And the gore is off the charts. Robert Hall did a decent job with directing but, the story was so bad. I mean nobody had a fucking phone? We emailed 911? What the fuck? That was just laughable. Horror genre legend Richard Lynch does a cameo as a funeral home owner and is good in the entire 30 seconds he's on screen. Too bad. I liked his character and he had some potential. Sadly in the end. This movie falls short of being good. And its sad. The gore is wonderful and nasty. But, Bobbi Sue Luther's acting is so terrible along with a story that seemed thrown together at the last minute just kills this movie. I give it 1.5 axes. 1 axe for gore and .5 for Kevin Gage's performance. Worth a rent when it comes out April 21st. On the cheap rack.

Michael Myers without his mask? What the duece?
Michael Myers without his mask? What the duece?
Fans of Halloween all around the net are in a total and complete uproar as it seems that we may have as much as 70% of Rob Zombie's Halloween H2 movie without Michael Myers having the mask (as reported by Shocktillyoudrop.com). Here is a snippet.
"That's Michael's new look for a lot of the film. Fans will be shocked. They seem pretty responsive to it. But it's like anything else, as long as you're doing something cool, people get it."
My personal take is this could be a horrific outstanding idea or it could be Halloween III or Friday the 13th Part V waiting to happen all over again. Yikes. Either way I'm checking it out as Zombie makes a damn bad ass flick. Just remember those two above movies. Oh god.

HUGE Box Office for Fast and Furious
HUGE Box Office for Fast and Furious
Well, in one of my most anticipated movies of the year I assumed the Fast and Furious sequel would do well. Maybe $40 million. But, whoa. The reunion of Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez proved to be the biggest non holiday opening in Universal's history for a 3 day week haul. The sequel pulled in a MONSTER $72 million dollars at the US box office and another $30.1 million internationally. Bringing its total to a crazy $102 million in its first weekend. And far as horror goes. Well, The Haunting in Connecticut pulled in another respectable $9.5 million for a nice total of $37 million. Which leads you to believe it will finish some where north of $55 million easily. Taken from Liam Neesom continues to $1.5 million raising its total to a big $139 million dollars. And if you haven't seen it. Well, shit its one of the best thrillers in a long time. The thriller/scifi venture The Knowing with Nick Cage held solid in 4th place with another $8 million and raising its total to a respectable $58 million. The Last House on the Left can be considered a success taking in a total of $30 million dollars now. Another opening was Alien Trespass. The scifi flick opened in just 40 theaters to a not so great $1,037 per screen for a $42,900. Ouch. That per screen total does not bode well for a wider release. When you consider Fast and Furious had a $20,000 per screen total.

Friday's Box Office was Fast and Furious
Friday's Box Office was Fast and Furious
Normally, I wouldn't even post a non thriller/horror opening on my site however, I'm a fan of the Fast and The Furious and the sequel not named Tokyo Drift (cough ugh). So I'm posting the opening for the Paul Walker and Vin Diesel sequel we finally got. The opening day was MASSIVE at a huge $30.1 million dollars. As for the Haunting in Connecticut $3.6 million is still pretty damn good in its second week running its total to a healthy $31.3 million dollars. A definite nice take for a horror movie. The Knowing continues to be pretty strong with $2.6 million and raising its total to $52.7 million.
The Tortured Trailer
Here's the early trailer for the Twisted Pictures "The Tortured". The pic sounds some what in the vain of Last House on the Left. Some one kills a kid and now the fucker is about to be tortured by the parents who are pissed. The trailer looks promising. It stars Bill Moseley, Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) and Erika Christensen. No release date yet.

Inglourious Basterds goes to Cannes
Inglourious Basterds goes to Cannes
It seems one the most anticipated films of the year will make its debut at Cannes Film Festival. The Brad Pitt led WW2 flick that has him and a band of soldiers killing Nazi's is said to be ready by the May festival. It looks like a great flick from Quentin Tarantino.
